ELBERT COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE

Traffic Enforcement Division

We're going to make the highways safer through traffic enforcement and the STEALTH Unit.  In Elbert County, there are ZERO Chances because there is ZERO Tolerance.

The Elbert County Sheriff's Office has 4 full time traffic enforcement officers. Major Shayne Bennett, Lt. Jonathan Burnette, Sgt. Brad Graham, and Cpl. Blake Young work in this division whose primary function is to investigate traffic accidents, look for and arrest impaired drivers, and provide selective traffic enforcement duties to all areas of the county. Traffic enforcement deputies work closely with the Governor Office of Highway Safety in the enforcement of traffic laws. Each one of the traffic enforcement deputies have attended many advanced schools in the investigation of traffic accidents and the enforcement of traffic laws.

In 2005, the Elbert County Sheriff's Office created the STEALTH (Sheriff's Tactical Enforcement and Apprehension to save Lives on The Highways) Unit to battle drunk drunk and aggressive drivers.  This Unit is also responsible for child safety seat checks, education of the traffic laws, DUI checkpoints, enforcing speed limits, accident investigations and suspended license and insurance violations.

The Traffic Unit has received numerous local, state and national awards for highway safety on Georgia's roadways.

The traffic units are equipped with radar units, video camera systems, high output radio repeaters and in car computer system which is connected directly to state computer system for the purpose of running tag information and driver license information. Any one wishing to be assigned to the traffic unit must have worked with the sheriff's office for a period of one year.

Statistics were released for the mid year of 2006 from a  time frame of January 01, 2006 until June 30, 2006. These statistics are based on calculations on services provided by the Traffic Division of the Elbert County Sheriff's Office.
